Those of you who are regular visitors to AccuWeather.com are aware of one of our very talented broadcasters, Kate Bilo. Kate has been on leave recently. In this latest edition of "Confessions of a Weather Girl", she tells her emotional story of why she's been away and what's happening in her life.

I just wanted you to know that I know EXACTLY what you and she are going thru. My mom was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor over ten years ago. Actually my dad was the one in the hospital at the time, and she had been telling her doctor she had been having these strange "feelings" for a year; NEVER did an MRI on her! Then she started vomiting (a sign of a brain tumor) uncontrollably while dad was in the hospital. SO they did an MRI on Friday, and had her in surgery on Monday (got rid of tumor but is the fast growing kind that always returns). Hers was in a high stage also, but people that have this kind don't live long ever. This was found out in May, they did radiation in June, she went downhill from there and passed away Oct. 17th. That was the worst day of my life. I too was pregnant at the time but never told her; I didn't want her to ache over the child she knew she would never meet. I'm not telling you this to get you down! EVERYONE is different, and lung cancer has a better survival rate than this. Just take it one day at a time, cherish every moment you have with her; OH, how I'd love to hear the phone ring once again and hear her voice on the other end! Don't EVER give up hope and utilize the best resources that are out there! Technology has changed a LOT in the last ten years! Pray for a miracle, because it can happen! Congratulations on your upcoming arrival! This will give your mom strength and something to look forward to and live for! I don't think situations like this are just coincidental; after my son was born he took the spot in our family that she left behind! Maybe God is giving you this baby for your mom's sake too! Please keep us updated and know that I will pray for your family. This is just one of those trials in life we must face. I'm sorry about your mother... I hope the cancer goes into remission very soon... and congradulations on the baby "girl" you are having.. My heart goes out to you and your family Kate!!
I am a clinical researcher and know that there are lots of very hopeful new therapies that can help people with lung cancer. AstraZeneca has a new therapy called Zactima in development and GSK have a novel targeted immunotherapy in development called ASCI. Both have trials running and are showing great results. Congratulations on the baby news! My wife works at Vidal Sassoon and wanted to offer you a mum to be pampering session but seeing as we are based in South Florida it's a bit of a way to come!! Apparently your short hair-do was rocking it last year and she advises you go even shorter and have the features to carry it off... new beginnings and all!! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYBODY IN THE BILO CLAN!!! In her last video she mentioned she would be returning for an update in '3 weeks' but it never happened. I hope she is doing okay. My heart goes out to you Kate and so do my prayers. B x x

I spoke to Kate (who oddly enough was on Jeopardy last night!) and she says:

Yes! I saw her on there the other night. I was explaining to my wife who she was

If anybody has any updates I would really appricate them. I've been praying for your whole family Kate, I hope that all is well with you, that your mom is hanging in there, and that you have a nice healthy baby boy or girl.
