Alright, here is the story behind the question.

Every single time I eat a green jolly rancher I cough uncontrolably. It isn't a hacking horrible cough, just a cough constant little choking coughs. When I eat them, I cough continously until the candy is gone and the taste is out of my mouth. There is usually about 5 seconds or less between the coughs. I have tried holding them in, but they tiny little coughs still excape.

No other hard or soft candy/food does this to me. I am fine when I eat ALL of the other flavors of jolly rancher. I have tried the hard and chewy green jolly rancher and they both have the same effect on me. I even tried the green jolly rancher soda and it makes me cough as well. I am not allergic to anything that I know of.

What do you think about this? Have you ever experienced this with this candy or with any other food?

Bubbles dear, I think you are wonderfully unique in this matter. I will, however, go and buy a lil thing of jolly ranchers are research and give all the green ones away to watch how people react to them!

I actually did this the other day. I gave away 5 green jolly ranchers to 5 of my guards. Not one of them coughed. sad.gif
I was thinking about trying to get some government funding and conducting some reasearch. With how much is going to the cow fart fund, I am estimating that I should get AT LEAST $150,000! lol

I do appricate you assistance Fenwin! I will wait patiently to see the results of your study smile.gif

True Story...

When I was younger (grade school young), I used to eat Jolly Ranchers all the time. In fact, I used to call them Jolly Rogers. rolleyes.gif

Anyways, one time, I almost choked and died from them. My mother began panicking trying to figure out what to do. She had to perform the heimlich maneuver on me. I didn't eat Jolly Ranchers for a long after that incident.

With all of that said, green Jolly Ranchers are ok, but the red and pink Jolly Ranchers are #1. tongue.gif

That could be one factor. Another could be the fact that your body isn't made to digest processed food dyes and extracts as they are. The 3rd could be a Pavlovian response. My Behavior Mod professor would be proud. You coughed the first few times, so now you do it all the time.

Wow this is so weird... I have these weird coughs when i eat them too! I honestly thought i was the only one that would cough from a jolly rancher! I still to this day have no clue why they make me cough but they do... yet i still keep eating them! My favorite though is the red ones!

Nope, that is the only food that does that too me. I have no problems with the ingrediants if they are in other items. Weird...

Chalk up anthother one. I don't always but often cough when eating jolly ranchers. For me it doesn't matter what the flavor is. I just always assumed it was because the flavor was so strong. *shrug*
