Hey everyone, since some of familiar faces are beginning to show up. I wanted to start a game in which you have to predict the total amount of measurable snowfall that will fall for a handful of Southeastern cities. I wanna see if anyone here is interested. Please let me know what you think and if your in.
Here's how to play, I will hand-pick a half-dozen or so Major Southeastern cities, (For example, Atlanta). Your job is to predict how much accumulating snow will fall throughout the 2009-2010 winter season for those cities. A reminder, that many forecasts are calling for a weak to moderate El Nino. Which normally brings above average precipitation, and below normal temps for much of the southeast. I'm interested in what ya'll have to say, but please No Wishcasting. I also know it is a little early, so if you like you can wait till the pattern clears a to enter your predictions. I would also like some input from some of the expert Northeastern forecasters. You must enter your predictions before October 20, 2009 Here are the cities: Atlanta, GA Birmingham, AL Nashville, TN Charlotte, NC Greenville, SC Thank you and good luck forecasting! -------------------- Summary of 2009-2010 winter so far... First Snow Flurries: December 5 Total Accumulated Snowfall: 7.65" Lowest High so far: 30 Lowest Low so far: 12.5 # of Frosts( 36F or lower): 94 # of Freezes( 32F or lower): 71 Days with Snow: 12 # of 1-inch+ Snowfalls:2 # of 3-inch+ Snowfalls:1 # of Ice Storms: 0 As of, March 27 2010 |

Atlanta, GA T-3"
Birmingham, AL- 3-6" Nashville, TN 8-18" Charlotte, NC- 6-20" Greenville, SC- 5 to 15" Those are my predictions. I think the South-east could have an above year for snowfall. That depends on all the cold fronts and storms that enter through the region this winter of 2009-2010. This post has been edited by WEATHERFAN100: Sep 16 2009, 03:56 PM -------------------- -James

That depends on all the cold fronts and storms that enter through the region this winter of 2009-2010. Thank you! I'm also leaning toward slightly above average snowfall for the Southeastern region. Most of the forecasts that I've seen are leaning toward below average temps and above average precip. I would be strange not to have a few opportunities with both factors involved at the same time! Yep I think those predictions you have sound about right to me Another way we may be able to get more snow would be from an ULL like last March, where I got 7" IMBY. Now if we could get a set up just like that and add cooler temps more moisture.... Perfect Storm for us in the SE -------------------- Live by the models and die by the models,
its a crazy place to be with a big storm |
