In your life, what or who has had the most impact in making you the person you are today?
I've had several people who helped define me, my Mom, honesty/work ethic, my first boss and his family, he gave me a chance, he had humor and style, the Army, discipline, many friends. The list could go on and on. And of course my wife and family. Numerous mistakes and life experiences'. This post has been edited by jacksonville: Oct 7 2010, 02:50 AM |

DAD: good personality traits; how to treat people in a nice way; lacking in convictions; enjoy good times; some responsibility shirking issues
Mom: determination to do what is right; how to budget; introduced me to God and how to learn about Him (random) Teachers: loving learning; necessity of doing it the right way and all the way Strangers: Looking for something good in anyone, and complimenting it when appropriate God: Mercy; shun what He loathes; obedience reaps blessings Girlfriend/Bride/Wife/Friend: Good morals; self confidence (a conundrum, if you knew HER); fondness for travel Sisters: keeping memories of family Daughter: fun, search it out at all times, it balances out the less desirable times Mr MacLeod: too many things to list ~ All around good manliness |

In your life, what or who has had the most impact in making you the person you are today? Who shaped my political beliefs? Probably Bill Clinton more than anyone else; I simply found the hypocrisy and low morals that characterized his presidency more than i could stand. From his tax and spend policies that raped my paycheck to his belittling the American electorate with his blatant lying, unrepentant drug use and draft dodging. The man and his ilk showed me what the "left" was all about and i knew even then as a young man that his party's example of a President was not one that i wanted to be associated with. His attacks on the Family and wholesome values, rampant misguided dismantling of our military, his trying and (thankfully) failing to ram Hilliarycare down our throats, his attacks on Microsoft and unwavering support for Fabian Socialists were all examples of rocks the left wants to smash our country on...and planks i simply cannot support. Who shaped my thoughts on what a "man" is? My dad and the Holy Bible. Both showed my the importance of a "man" carrying his own weight. They explained what duty and honor are and how i am supposed to put those who are my dependents above my needs, wants and desires. They both illustrated to me the importance of the differing roles of men and women and how one needs the other to be complete in marriage. When i was a young man i read a lot of books on Bushido, Chivalry and others that focused on "self-help" like Stephen Covey and Anthony Robbins. These books helped to shap my outlook on life and how i wanted to be thought of both now and later when i am gone. (My legacy) Thankfully, the TV had very little influence on me, both in my formative years or now; Though i do admit Glen Beck has definitely raised my awareness of current events. -------------------- In his farewell address (September 19, 1796), President George Washington told the nation: "Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle. . . . Virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government."

My parents were the building blocks for everyone/everything else. My folks are systematically intelligent and gave that to their kids. My dad is afraid of NOTHING - literally. Both my brother and I have his boldness, to the point of a fault I must admit.
Jesus and the Godly people he put in my life have really molded me. My children, strangly enough, have also molded me. I think because I have to answer to them because they watch every LITTLE THING I do. Sometimes I want to say "Don't watch me as I do this", but that can't happen. Great topic, Jacksonville! -------------------- Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. Rather it should be to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand and the Good Book in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO what a ride!" |

Everyone has tried to shape me, but sadly it failed. Although, I guess I have to shape myself or else I'll never become successful.
