When looking at yesterday's 06z GFS run bringing a 1060 mb high into the north central US and a giant trough covering nearly all of the United States, I thought it would be a fun idea to keep track of the craziest GFS Fantasy Land images. They can be anywhere in the United States, and can range from hurricanes, blizzards, extreme rainstorms, arctic cold blasts, ect.

Today's story on the 18z GFS is... North Pole invades the United States:

Attached File  GFS4.gif ( 71.45K ) Number of downloads: 16

Attached File  GFS3.gif ( 55.18K ) Number of downloads: 14

1/18 Edit: Even though it's mainly the GFS, you can still post images from any other model if it's crazy enough.

Today's 18z GFS run is definitely big enough to be posted here... it's not every day that you see a sub-970 mb storm explode over the region with over 2 feet of snow in PA/NY along with freezing temperatures and strong winds:

Sure, you can post any GFS fantasy image you want, as long as it's in the hour 204+ range (hour 192+ for any GFS runs before this summer).

970mb blizzard from last year. Eventually this turned into the December 19th blizzard.

Not too wild, but a pretty impressive precip field considering it's only 992mb.

I'm pretty sure that regardless of what the GFS Fantasy Land shows over the next few months, today's 18z GFS will be the winner for the most extreme eye candy laugh.gif

18z GFS: The North Pole relocates over the Midwest, new ice age starts

850 mb temps are off the scale:

They're mostly for the GFS as it tends to have the most entertaining fantasy images, but you can post other models if they're crazy enough.

For anyone who remembers this recent moderate snowstorm in the NE today... the CRAS originally had this as a sub-940 mb low in NY state laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Attached File  cras1.gif ( 62.81K ) Number of downloads: 33

Attached File  cras2.gif ( 61.72K ) Number of downloads: 20

Its next two runs also showed something nearly identical, then it backed down somewhat, showing "only" a 956 mb low.

That kind of reminds me of the movie ''The Day after Tomorrow A major super

affect the U.S.
