I have a camp in Caratunk, Maine, this place has the strangest weather you ever saw, I'm on the east side of Wyman lake, in between big hills. Last summer I was looking at the computer in the morning and the map was perfectly clear, forcast sunny, it was raining at camp for 1/2 hour then cleared off!!
 Camp is 50 miles from home, I went to do some work there Friday, it had just started to sleet at home, hit snow 15 miles north till 15 miles from camp, then back to sleet, I can only assume from the warmth of the lake? (Elevation rises all the way to camp) Snowed and sleeted the rest of the day, I loved it!!  I just keep looking out the window at the lake and wish I could be on it, but have to wait for ice, none has formed yet. Ice fishing starts January 1st!!

Ice was skimmed a little morning of 11/30/10 Tuesday, got here at 7am, from then on ice was actually forming till 10am when the wind started and blew it into the shore, then it warmed up and melted it all.

Calling for 8.5" of snow at camp tomorrow, I'm just waiting for ice!!  You snow lovers can have the snow!!  I'm on vacation starting in 4 hours and have work to finish at camp most of the week, I'll be back to report in in 10 days....

I'm Back..........
Snow!!...Ice.....RAIN!!..what a mess!! Snow today just a few inches, camp is almost done, the half of camp I have insulated and finished shows on the outside as no more icicles dripping off the roof on that side!! Now we have to start making ice over again as the warm and rain washed it all away!!  It's 9 in Caratunk right now so it won't take long. Ice fishing starts in 17 days!! -------------------- " it don't get no better than this "

Upta camp today, lake is frozen over, still some open spots in front of camp, camp is on the north end of a 12 mile lake near where the river comes in and the moving water makes it harder to freeze and all the rain has it still moving quite fast. Small snow flurry at one point, I love small flurries, don't like shoveling snow anymore!!
Few more shelves to build and then clean up the mess and get ready for ice fishing January 1st!!

Went to camp yesterday 12-24-10, lake is open (not much ice) in front of camp, had around 8" of fresh snow on the ground, there is about 100' of ice in front of camp in the cove, will have to fish in there for brook trout on opening day.

Yesterday, Jan1st, was opening day for ice fishing, I went out to the center of the lake on 3" of ice, caught some nice trout, had to come back for work today, wife called and said it is open water where I was fishing yesterday!!

Icing here now, kinda like fog ice, no fish today, it's 10:30 am and I'm heading for home, snowing hard down there (Canaan 50 miles south).

I have learned you must take the picture as soon as the Rainbow Trout comes out of the water as the color fades very fast, the first one I caught two years ago I didn't know what it was, but it was the most beautiful fish I ever saw.
I was thinking about posting here this morning and how Caratunk weather is boring compared to the fireworks in the rest of the country!! I'll take the cold snowy winters over tornado's any day!! -------------------- " it don't get no better than this "

We had a 3 day heat wave, it was 92 on Friday!!
