Some models are suggesting the Southeast could very well break records left and right later next week. What do you all think?

All the GFS runs I've seen show no let-up in the cold in the coming days.
-------------------- "Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; to cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man; to satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew? Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it? The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen."

Brutal Cold.. With this PLEASE check on your neighbors, especially the elderly. Also check on your outside pets. If you leave them outside, make sure you check their water a couple times a day, that they have plenty of food, and a warm spot. Drip your faucets as well. Might want to check the anti-freeze in the auto too.

If these are high temperatures, there is no way they will verify...

modals are equally split on if Florida will get the brunt of this cold which seems strange since the trajectories will be perfect.

From the FFC (Atlanta)
QUOTE BEYOND THIS...THERE IS CONSIDERABLE DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THE GFS/ECMWF AS TO THE EVOLUTION OF THE PATTERN. THE ECMWF HAS BEEN REMARKABLY CONSISTENT IN GENERATING A DEEP SW U.S. UPPER LOW AND A CLASSIC SPLIT FLOW PATTERN...THAT COULD BRING ANOTHER ROUND OF WINTER WX TO THE AREA IN THE 24/25 JAN PERIOD. MEANWHILE...THE GFS KEEPS A FULL LATITUDE WESTERN U.S. RIDGE/EASTERN U.S. TROUGH IN PLACE THROUGH THE PERIOD WITH NO SW U.S. UPPER LOW TO BE FOUND. THERE IS A 30DM HEIGHT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE GFS AND THE ECMWF AT 240 HRS ACROSS THE SW U.S. AT ANY RATE...A VAST AREA OF ARCTIC AIR REMAINS POOLED ACROSS CANADA AND THE NORTHERN STATES AND THE GFS HEMISPHERIC ANALYSIS SHOWS A POCKET OF VERY COLD -30C TO -40C AIR CROSSING THE N POLE FROM RUSSIA INTO CANADA AND THE GREAT LAKES/NE U.S. DURING THIS SAME TIME FRAME. THIS WILL ALL BE VERY INTERESTING TO WATCH...BUT CLEARLY WINTER IS FAR FROM OVER. AFD -------------------- Winter of 2011 - 2012 in Review

I'm almost hoping these are just model anomalies, as the cold is starting to get old.

We should change the date tittle from 11-? to 22-? There is a thread already open for this for the Mid Atlantic/NE (link)... if you change the date, you should create this thread for the SE only, not all of the East, as it would only cause confusion. -------------------- Visit my weather website for the NYC area

Now models have backed it to next weekend and beyond! The setup looks awfully familiar to the late 1970's!

Unrelenting cold!
