JB was good on calling TC genesis before anyone else. Maybe his trigger was too sensitive, he had some false alarms, but I can never recall a TC developing in the Atlantic Basin that JB hadn't expressed interest in at least 3 days prior.
JB would sometimes sniff out a favorable pattern for "bursts" a month ahead of time. He was just getting really good using MJO forecasts to predict Atlantic activity. His Eastern Asia/Eastern North America 10 days to 2 weeks "telegraphing the ridge position" typhoon recurve/hurricane predictions were usually very good. |

He will be missed...I have been a big fan for quite a long time of him. He did on occasion annoy me with bringing politics into his posts even when I agreed with them. He brought a lot of insight especially in weather pattern recognitions..

on a side note JB has left accuweather!!! Sure hope there are plans to beef up the pro site. Many subscribed just for Je's commentary. It would be nice if Henry would become exclusive to the pro-site. I'll be watching closely to see if I need to drop my pro subscription. I'll give it a chance for awhile, though. |

How long has paul worked for accuweather? Alao where is joe going or did he retire? He seemed young. Paul has worked with us for a long time. He was kind of Joe's understudy as far as long-range goes, so I have a lot of confidence in him. Henry will be doing Joe's videos on Pro for now, but will continue to do his Free blog as well. -------------------- -- Jesse Ferrell, FORUM ADMIN & MODERATOR

I do wish him the best, long time follower, but no reasoning or announcement, even from the Accuweather company??? and he pretty much put Accuweather on the map, the world of media... He devoted his life to Accuweather.........just seems odd... We posted an announcement here on the Forums and on JB's Facebook Fan Page at 4:30 this afternoon... since it was his decision to leave, there isn't any "reasoning" from us. Although I am devastated by his leaving after working for him 14 years, I have a good feeling that it was his decision. Whatever he is going to do (and I really don't know) I wish him the best. -------------------- -- Jesse Ferrell, FORUM ADMIN & MODERATOR

That was quite surprising hearing that JB suddenly left Accuweather... while there were a few occasions which I disagreed with his forecasts, I do have a lot of respect for him, he has done a great job at Accuweather and he is a great forecaster that will be missed.

I'll be watching closely to see if I need to drop my pro subscription. I'll give it a chance for awhile, though. We have many people who also use the pro site for model information (ECMWF comes to mind)....but thank you for giving it a chance! All the forecasting at Accuweather (including the Long Range Forecasting) is done by teams of meteorologists...a practice that has been a part of Accuweather from it's creation. As a Pro Subscriber I, too, am looking forward to see how things will unfold from here. I am also looking forward to seeing Paul and Henry's new expanded roles. Again..thank you for your willingness to give it a chance...and welcome to the forums!! (I see it's your first post) -------------------- ![]() |

Well sorry accu weather but I will be closing down my account to the pro site, he was the first reason I came and will be the reason I leave...He was the only person I would read..I know he had a moment yesterday where he said he was typing a post and missed his daughter's vault at a gymnastics meet..Then went on to say how he was failing as a parent compared to his parents...

This literally saddens me. Joe has taught me so much about weather in the past 10 years or so I have been following him since I was old enough to read and navigate the web, I am a youngin (20) compared to most on here. The only reason I have the pro site is for his blog (sorry accuweather). I will hope he just has to decided to work else where and I will be able to follow him there. If not, I wish him the best of luck in whatever path he chooses.

He didn't indicate where he was going? He just quit without notice? That seems very odd. It will be interesting to eventually find out what happened. I sub'd to the Pro site to read Joe's blog. I am not sure I will continue to pay $25/mo without that. I can get the models elsewhere and with faster updating though it's nice to get the EC. This really, really sucks.

Total nonsense that Bastardi would just leave on his own or withoput notice. Totally out of character and quite frankly the ONLY man to ask is Elliot Abrams. Needless to say Accuweather either did not meet his wishes in some way($$$) or someone got a bug up there you know what about him for something -and it resulted in his sudden resignation and/or termination. Thats unfortunate, because if that is the case Accuweather has gone down the the road of the weather Channel and NWS and copped out of honest no/bs weather forecasting.
