Did not pick up any rainfall from last night's storms but did see some strong winds and lightning.

Picked up 1.63 inches of rain from the storms last night. Almost all the fireworks shows around Richmond and the surrounding areas were canceled until today. Rain started around 4:00PM and ended around 10:00PM. Some tree damage and pea size hail was reported with this system.

No severe weather events from last night. Everyone got to see fireworks that were canceled from Monday.
High yesterday was 91 @ 258PM, and the low was 69 @ 457AM. Average for the day was 80. Precipitation we are down about -0.09 since June 1 and down -2.02 since January. Picked up 2.98 inches of precipitation in about a hour and 1/2 from the storms yesterday. Heavy rain, intense thunder and lightning. Some tree damage in the backyard, but only branches.

Picked up another 2.50 inches in the @CoCoRaHS rain gauge. For the month that is 6.06 inches, think that took care of the drought.

After a couple of days with storms and lots of rainfall, it was good to have a weekend rain free. The heat and humidity will come back for the beginning of the week. So a typical summer in VA.

Heat advisory in affect from 11:00AM to 8:00PM for Central Virginia. Temperatures near 100 will make heat indices around 105 and higher. Temperatures tomorrow will be in the mid 90's and then a weak cold front crosses the area.

...all time record high minimum temperature set at Richmond VA...
the minimum temperature at Richmond on Tuesday July 12th was 81 degrees. this breaks the record high minimum temperature of 76 degrees set in 1993. more significantly...this is the first time in recorded history that Richmond has had a minimum temperature of 80 degrees or higher. prior to Tuesday...there have been 9 occurrences where the minimum temperature was 79 degrees at Richmond. in a few cases...the morning minimum was at or above 80 degrees...only to drop below 80 degrees prior to midnight (1am EDT) the following evening. official daily records are recorded from 1am EDT to 1am EDT (midnight to midnight est). daily record keeping at Richmond began in 1897. -------------------- |
