I'll probably have a better idea on this by October when I look into this winter in more details, but my first guess for NYC would be late November/early December.

Jackson, MS - Early December if conditions come together just right (here's hoping!). It's happened before a couple winters ago.
-------------------- "Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; to cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man; to satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew? Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it? The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen."

That seems to be a little bit early to me. we had snowfall (about .5") last year around that time (11/4/10 to be exact). Locations away from the river valley saw between 2 and 3 inches of accumulation. -------------------- Rob

That is not that much, I dont get much because i live on the coast, but areas just inland tend to see over 45-50" per season. Yes, but my record (last year in fact) is 26.1". My winter forecast calls for 15-30+ this winter, depending on how the jet streams interact. -------------------- Best model sites:

9.7 inches. Not sure when the avg first snow is... I think it's sometime in early December Not bad given ur area. That would be considered to be a terrible year in my area where the average is around 35" My average snowfall is about 135cm or about 53-54". Snowiest month is March 1870 I believe. 63" feel that month alone with 126" for the entire Winter I believe LOL. |

Average snowfall in Milwaukee has gone up in recent years. I think as of now it's just over 51". As for this year, I think my first flakes (trace of snow) will be the first week of November, and the first snowfall over a tenth of an inch will be just past the midway point of November. I can't remember the last solid November snowstorm, so I think we're due for something decent in November. Given climo, though, our first solid measurable snow may not even be until early December.

Already seen my first flakes and accumulation (but that was up at 3000+ in elevation) back on the first of month. A bit early, but I'll take it. Normally we see first flakes around 20th of month and first accumulation first week of November or so. -------------------- Snowfall 2007-2008 season-11.4 inches

Normally we see first flakes around 20th of month and first accumulation first week of November or so. Given the forecast for the next couple of weeks, it's quite possible I'll actually be a tad late with my prediction. As of right now, Accuweather gives us a mix of rain and snow on Halloween, and some mixes or freezing rain a couple of the nights prior to that. |

Moderate chance of seeing my first flakes on Friday morning... another moderate chance on Saturday night. Chance of accumulation is extremely small.

For Detroit area, I'd say around early-mid November.

For the Indianapolis/ Carmel area....I have been wanting to say around Dec 5th for the first actual storm. For the first "flakes" I will say Nov. 5th.
