I have a 32GB SD card for my Nikon D3100. It worked just fine for a long time. But this afternoon, after taking a few pictures, the camera screen suddenly read "SD Card not formatted." and locked up. I tried using an old 8GB SD Card I had and it worked fine. So then I tried the 32GB again, and still the same problem. So, after hours of troubleshooting on the internet, I came to the conclusion that I had to format the SD Card, which I then did using the in-camera settings. 80 priceless photos wiped out. But I know there is a way to recover lost photos that were accidentally deleted, formatted, etc. from SD cards. Can anyone recommend any programs or other methods to recover my lost photos?

I would suggest having multiple SD cards available. If you get the errors that you got, remove the SD card from the camera an set it aside and put a newly formatted SD card in the camera. You can then work with the SD card that had the problem at you leasure and with whatever tools may be available.
Once you format media - EVERYTHING on that media has been erased and with the data/pictures erased they cannot be retrieved. Deleting files from media and formatting media do not work in the same ways. The act of deleting a file from media, just turns off the flag for the file in the master file table structure of the media. Formatting media turns all values on the media to their original settings, including the master file table structure. -------------------- Never too old to have a happy childhood! .......... ..........![]() Don't put an age limit on your dreams! |

I actually purchased a program that helped me retrieve my lost formatted data from the SD card, and it worked. Thanks though
