Just curious what was the heighest amounts recorded in Europe I had heard some people saw up to 2 meters but was not sure if that was all in one storm or the snow depth? There were a series of storms, 3 in fact: ![]() ![]() Here is the evolution of the snow cover from January 19th to February 14th. It is clearly visible how the snow layer increased in one month. Warm-up this week all over Europe. The biggest question of all, is this Spring or not? Judging by these, it looks like Spring, but maybe there are still some surprises left in March. ![]() ![]() -------------------- Declared Snowaholic

Still amazing though those depths. Hopefully for you guys it a slow warmup or else some flooding could occur. -------------------- Severe Weather Safety

Hello,
Interesting to note as snow storms overlapped with negative AO index. Do you think that winter blocking pattern was generated only by this? Maybe combined with LA NINA air circulation? Nicos This post has been edited by Nicos: Feb 21 2012, 11:43 AM |

Am interesting article here:
http://www.3bmeteo.com/giornale-meteo/onda...a-storia--56333 Above all, it notes the simmilarities between the February 2012 cold event and other cold events like the ones in January 1985 and February 1956. -------------------- Declared Snowaholic

Looks like it, anyway for the next few days we are expecting +10C to +15C. Probably in March there will be nights with temperatures of -10C in some areas but I doubt that the long term cold will be back.

+17C yesterday in Romania with +12C in Bucharest. The snow is melting fast but still a good 36cm on the ground in Bucharest.
Lots of high temperatures all over Europe. Many places from Germany to the Balkans registered yesterday temperatures of above +10C. -------------------- Declared Snowaholic

what's the european forcast for march? Difficult to say. As far as I understand from 3bmeteo.com, it looks like Spring will come in March. Until March 4th, warm air will be centered over the Mediteranean, France, Germany, while the Balkans will see come cold air (generally I think there will be colder nights, positive temperatures durring the day as the sun's radiation is beginning to be intense). After March 4th it looks like warm air will spread once again over the Balkans. ![]() ![]() Source: www.3bmeteo.com -------------------- Declared Snowaholic

The averages for the month of February published by NOAA.
Very dry in France, Spain, Germany, Northern Italy and well above normal precipitation in the Balkans, Romania, South Italy, Greece. Actually the path of the snowstorms in the Balkans is pretty clear on the map (Blue) ![]() As for temperatures, well below average during February with the worst of the cold over Ukraine, East and South Romania, Northern Serbia (7C below average) ![]() The recent warming which I think is the end of winter has decreased significantly the snow depth over Europe. On March 1st snow has melted over much of Europe, it raimains over Northern Europe, and the Balkan area, Romania, Ukraine but in smaller quantities. In Romania, the snow is melting in the areas affected by the blizzards in February. In Bucharest out of 72cm , 24cm remain. The snow should melt completely in the next 2 days. Other areas in Southern Romania have lost the 50-60cm February snow cover. -------------------- Declared Snowaholic

Looks like now some weather forcasters are calling for 15-25cm for Vilnius wednesday.. some like accuweather only about 5cm with snow/rain mix...
Anyone have any updates on the possibility for quite a bit of snow for eastern Lithuania?? |
