I think its safe to say that we are in a snow drought also way above normal temps for this time of year. my question is when will this end? after the last 2 amazing winters is mother nature taking a break?

I've noticed a trend. You guys in the northeast and midwest have been having an extraordinarily mild winter, while at the same time, we in California and also the Rockies have been suffering from a total lack of rainfall this rainy season. Drought is developing for us again, despite the last two amazing winters here. Also, the Sierra Nevada snowpack is well below normal, threatening our water reservoirs and agriculture.
Didn't all of this happen in 2001-2002 as well? Except that was a Neutral ENSO winter, rather than a La Nina? -------------------- Temecula Seasonal Precipitation 2012-2013: 7.27" (-6.43") Normal to-date precipitation: 13.70" East Murrieta Seasonal Precipitation 2012-2013: 7.11" Season began July 1st, 2012. It's really hard to call this a snow drought if it only happened for one year after a nearly record breaking snow season. Give me at least another 3 seasons of less than 15-20 inches over the next 4-5 years and I'll call it an official snow drought (it better not be one -------------------- Visit my weather website for the NYC area

NYC may have below average snowfall this year... but it really isn't a "drought" because most of the storms that came to the Mid ATL/NE this season ended up being rain... plus NYC and other spots in the northeast DID see snow this season but just not up to average...
This thread really wont be useful and should probably be locked because a long range winter thread is already open and threads open throughout this section of the forum... you can track each storm there. Its 2/7/12... we still have over a month of "winter" left... and im sure February and March will bring a few more events to the region... Good thing is, it wont be the last winter. We will always have more. -------------------- Conyngham Winters

"This thread really wont be useful and should probably be locked" i will remember that when you start a thread. Im not trying to offend you. The SUBJECT of this thread is USEFUL but a long range thread is already out there so you can find information on when this "snow drought" may end in that thread. -------------------- Conyngham Winters
