My local met posted a note about this tonight on fb. Here's his post:
Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson (WHIO TV, Dayton, Ohio) A friend of mine who works for the National Weather Service alerted me to this. In the works are major budget cuts for the national Weather Service, who provide us with critical data here at Channel 7, but also are responsible for issuing all the watches and warnings we pass along to you. These cuts could impact your safety during severe weather. This friend also points out that the cost of running the NWS is only $3/person/year. Sign here: Link.
