Happy Leap Day everyone. Really, today is a special day and they should make it a holiday. With the years divisible by 100 NOT being leap years unless they are also divisible by 400, we actually have 365.2425 days to one revolution around the Sun.
We are much more likely to set weather records today than any other day as there are about 4 times less days to have already set records. Finally, I bring up an interesting question: What day was it a year ago today? It was not 2/28/2011 (year ago from yesterday) and it was not 3/1/2011 (year ago from tomorrow), so what day was it? I'd call it an imaginary day, 2/29i/2011. This post has been edited by Jet Developer: Feb 29 2012, 10:09 AM |

I would say that it a year ago it was indeed March 1st, and a year ago from tomorrow it was also March 1st. But that's just by looking at a calendar.
I wouldn't call it an 'imaginary day', as this is just the way humans measure time. -------------------- Temecula Seasonal Precipitation 2012-2013: 7.27" (-6.34") Normal to-date precipitation: 13.61" East Murrieta Seasonal Precipitation 2012-2013: 7.11" Season began July 1st, 2012. The answer to the question is Tuesday, sort of. A year is a sum of regular intervals. The trick is, you are hard pressed to use any full/round number for that interval. (thus the 365.2425 days of 24 hours each) And weeks of 7 days each total 364 days. 12 months of 30 days each won't work either. Lunar cycles to count a year?! Fuhgeddaboudit! Solstices and Equinoxes give us a better chance at the discernment of one full year, as they are not fixed by artificial time metrics with full round numerical units that we seem to insist on. Just sayin', thass all. This post has been edited by stusson: Feb 29 2012, 03:18 PM |

The Lunar calendar has been used for centuries....Chinese calendar is a Lunar calendar....Lunar cycles average 28 days...13 moons....28 X 13 = 364 ....closer to a perfect interval than our monthly calendar...IMHO Of course having 13 months wouldn't work with society's inane fear of the number 13 (triskadekaphobia). -------------------- Perception is everything
