Well, it is now March. That means we sat through December, January and February -- a period usually full of snowstorm possibilities and white fantasies -- and came out with nothing. Nodda. Ziltch. No Noreasters to speak of. One or two light events came through, but whatever snow they dropped didn't last for long.
So I think it is time to name this winter that never was. To dub on thee a moniker that will sum up our feelings for the disappointing few months that we just experienced. And now, I'd like to take this moment to honor the Winter That Never Was, and to formally name it... The Great Brown Dud of 2011-2012 Please feel free to submit your own entries. Here's a list of some of the many, many, many names that can be given to this year's December-February season:
"Winter" Non-winter Just a season An interlude between fall and spring Mega-Torch A time of the year supposed to contain weather that is not rain and warm Square root of negative 1 ERROR 404 Snow Dome Inc. Trying to give the term "winter" to this season may result in the following:

Time to shut these boards down, kids. Why would it be shut down? A lot of people come just for the snow but there's some of us (such as myself) that stick around through the rest of the year simply for the enjoyment of observing and forecasting any type of weather around, even if it's summer thunderstorms in 90 degree heat, which I'm starting to really hope for with the way this "winter" has been going. -------------------- Visit my weather website for the NYC area

Exactly - more like, snowbirds dare then fly away, return then with the skies of gray unto the threads the true geeks stay, and play among the weenies As for winter - how about it was a "No-win"ter Situation. |
