What are your preferred thermostat settings for the summer and winter?
During the winter we usually have it at 73 during the day and 71 during the night, but that's because my mom is extremely sensitive to cold. During the summer we usually have it between 78 and 80 during the day and keep it off during the night. Nights in California are relatively cool even in the summer. However, I know this strange guy who says they have the heat on 74 in the winter and have the AC on about 66 during the summer. It's crazy, I know, but apparently they want to feel that their house is much different than outside. This post has been edited by Jet Developer: Mar 18 2012, 11:32 AM |

I have 2 heating systems - Oil fired hot water baseboard heating and a electricla Heat Pump.
I use the Oil fired system as the primary and set it at 69 and don't change it day/night The heat pump is set for 58 - if I run out of oil or if I am away from home and for some reason the oil burner doesn't fire. The heat pump is the AC in the summer and is set at 78. -------------------- Never too old to have a happy childhood! .......... ..........![]() Don't put an age limit on your dreams! |

Arizona desert dweller here. We have a AC/Elec heat system.
For our coldest nights while we're home, we'll try to not exceed a T'sat setting of 74, and lower it for the day when we are out. For the hottest times of the season, the at home setting will likely be around 76, and 78 when out. Obviously, the costlier season is the AC use, bills can exceed $300.00/month |

I fall in line with Jet D. Being in Michigan, we only turn on the AC when the heat and humidity are at its absolute worse. I love to be warm and fresh air is always my first choice.
AC: 78 - 80, depending on the humidity outside. The AC only goes on a few times a year. The only time I would lower it is at night because if the AC is not kicking on and the air is not circulating, I feel like I'm smothering at night. (Nightly hot flashes don't help, but I won't bore you with those details.) Heat: 68. My children do walk around the house in the winter in shorts in a tank top and claim "It's cold". I'm in my jeans, a long sleeved shirt, and a hoodie and respond "No its not". Our energy bill in the winter can run $400 - $430, so the thermostat will not be raised above 68. If you're cold, do some jumping jacks. -------------------- Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. Summer...around 69-70
Winter...72-73 This is a small apartment, br, kitchen, living room and no hallway. Also, no door on the bedroom but apt. was made for 1 person or a couple. The unit is in the bedroom and circulates air throughout with just the blower from the unit...much like a motel room. My elec. bill runs between $65 and $90 year around when I'm living alone. -------------------- I use to be Snow White, but I drifted. ~Mae West |

Set the AC in the low 60's.
Have a coal stove which raises temps to the mid 70's. -------------------- Troll Mode engaged due to the explosion of the Philadelphia Flyers by their worthless management.

In the winter, We average 70. I set it to 68 to save money and my wife sets it to 72 to feel more comfortable. Then I set it to 68. Then when she walks by it, she sets it to 72. You know the drill. When we go away, I like to set it to 65. She likes to keep it on 68 for the cats. Last person to leave the house wins.
