Much warmer than forecast - had a high of 87F in Temecula today, but not the warmest of the year so far. That still belongs to 90F back on March 4.

Wow, you were actually warmer than me today, only hit 86F here. Also interesting is that your record high for '12 is exactly the same as mine and it only came 1 day after I recorded the record LOW for the year of 39F on March 3. Tomorrow, we could very well have our highest temp of the year, forecast calls for 91F. -------------------- 2012 Record High: 118°F - Jul. 10

Total rainfall from Wednesday's storm looks to be up to 0.40" here. The first of that storm will arrive late Tuesday night. I'll create a new thread for this week's events in a little while.....

Looks like a very cold storm coming in, even dropping the deserts to 65-70. So for us it means some rain, but once it passes the Rockies, it probably means more tornadoes. |

Huh, that is interesting. What did you get on March 4th for a high? Only reached 86F on that day. This morning, Thermal Airport in the eastern valley set a new all-time record low for Apr. 8 of 38F (!) thanks to the extremely low humidity. The low at my house was only 55F, but quite a few locations below sea level got colder last night than I was all winter! Yesterday, I did measure an incredible 3% relative humidity, and it hovered in the single digits most of the day. Nice thing about California is if you don't like hot weather, you don't have to go far to cool off. San Clemente Pier was 58 F at 1 pm today. I'm one of the guys who likes hot weather though so I enjoyed the temperatures in the 80s the last two days.

Yes, after having our first hot weekend of the spring after some cold and rainy ones, I was expecting the record report to have some record highs, but all it had was a record low. Frost and temperatures in the mid 80s are not something people would usually put together. BTW, why does Thermal get so much colder at night than Palm Springs? |

We got a high of 84F today, three degrees cooler thany yesterday. Temperatures are expected to drop by another couple of degrees tomorrow and into the 70s on Tuesday, before a storm arrives Tuesday night.

BTW, why does Thermal get so much colder at night than Palm Springs? Cold air is heavier and tends to sink. It pools in low-lying areas during the night and Thermal Airport is 112 feet below sea level. Same thing in the dry washes around here; whenever I bike through them in the morning I feel a sudden rush of cold air. BTW, Thermal today recorded a high of 92F after a 38F low. Must be some kind of record. -------------------- 2012 Record High: 118°F - Jul. 10

Same thing happened to us in December 2000 (and many other times during the 1999-2000 winter before): ![]() Information on the SoCal's weather at that time is very sketchy, so determining what caused those wide fluctations in temperature is nearly impossible. All I could find was a couple articles from The Press Enterprise newspaper archives from the time, available online. Apparently Santa Ana Winds were responsible, at least somewhat. What is with the Temecula station that is shown under your avatar? Sometimes during the day, I see it reading lower than some of the coastal stations, such as today. |

What is with the Temecula station that is shown under your avatar? Sometimes during the day, I see it reading lower than some of the coastal stations, such as today. Those readings are most likely taken from other areas away from Temecula, such as Camp Pendleton or March Air Base, and "borrowed" for Temecula. The WeatherCurrents station is far more accurate, since that station is actually in Temecula. Link is at the bottom of my signature. -------------------- Temecula Seasonal Precipitation 2012-2013: 7.27" (-6.34") Normal to-date precipitation: 13.61" East Murrieta Seasonal Precipitation 2012-2013: 7.11" Season began July 1st, 2012. Most likely Camp Pendleton since the John Wayne Airport was showing 73 F and the one under your avatar is 71 F. March Air Base is far away from the coast. |

Missed all the excitement since I was in Vegas for the past 5 days. Nerd tournaments and all.
Looking forward to a bit more rain before the season is over. |
