I'm basically centered in the downtown core by he university if that makes any difference.....Thanks much appreciated Dvid The wording of EC's warning favours elevated areas for the heaviest snow. QUOTE Snow has become heavy in a narrow swath on the higher terrain to the west of the Niagara Escarpment. Snow will fall, at times heavy, through the evening before easing in the overnight hours. Accumulations of 15 to locally 20 cm is likely in this area before it tapers off on Tuesday. Travis mentions the same thing along with the abrupt cutoff between higher totals and little-to-nothing in his last post. Good morning all, Nice little snowstorm, 7cm so far. Great pictures! Poor little branches suffering under the heavy wet snow does anyone have snow totals from last night? http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warnings/SW..._e.html?prov=on QUOTE An intense and moisture-laden spring storm has affected a large
portion of Ontario. The centre of the low pressure system raced up the Eastern United States seaboard on Monday then crossed into Eastern Ontario last night. Normally these storms hug the east coast with precipitation grazing Eastern Ontario. This one was different. It curved northwestwards, crossing New York state and accompanied by a large canopy of rain and snow. Most of the province has been running a significant precipitation deficit this year due to the abnormally dry weather. This weather system helped add valuable moisture with many areas receiving rain mixed at times with some wet snow. Little or no snow accumulated in the greater Toronto area through the Niagara region. Even the normally snowy 'snowbelts' received little significant snowfall Since it was such a late season event with relatively mild ground temperatures and air temperatures barely cold enough to snow. The exceptions were mainly over the highest terrain of the Dundalk Highlands (Orangeville and vicinity) and around Algonquin Park. It should be stressed that the largest snowfall amounts which exceeded warning criteria were restricted to a localized area on the highest ground. For instance, areas from Listowel to Mount Forest through Hanover received significantly less accumulation. Following are precipitation amounts up to 9 AM this morning (unless otherwise indicated). ------------------------------------------------------------- Location snowfall amount Flesherton 25 cm Orangeville up to 20 cm Fergus up to 8 cm Coldwater up to 5 cm Casselman (E of Ottawa) 7 to locally 10 cm (early Monday morning) Ottawa 3 cm (early Monday morning) Dwight (E of Huntsville) 10-13 cm (estimate) Ravenscliffe (hunsville) 7 cm Algonquin Park 13 cm Rainfall greater than 10 mm (including some snow for some locales) Downtown Toronto around 10 mm Toronto (Pearson) 16 mm Borden 18 mm Barrie 15 mm (includes about 2 cm wet snow) Collingwood 11 mm (includes about 2 cm wet snow) Beatrice (N of Bracebridge) 12 mm (includes about 2 cm wet snow) Hamilton 13 mm Welland 33 mm Vineland 18 mm Peterborough 18 mm Cobourg 13 mm Trenton 17 mm Point Petre 30 mm Kingston 16 mm Brockville 16 mm (includes about 2 cm wet snow) Kemptville 25 mm (includes a few cm of wet snow) |

I can confirm that the town of Shelburne (20KM north of Orangeville) picked up bewteen 30 and 35cm of snow from this. Dundalk and Singhampton received around 30cm as well! Simply epic... if you drive only 20KM east of that area the amounts plunge to under 5cm.
I recorded 7cm, half of which has melted already here. My house is on the lower range of the Escarpment (about 1000ft), while Orangeville lies at about 1400ft and Shelburne/Dundalk are 1600-1700 ft. To compare, Alliston sits about 720ft above sea level. -------------------- Track winter storms with expert analysis on either one of my two blogs:

The wind here was pretty crazy yesterday. Lots of minor damage, trees down, trampolines blown over fences, power outages. A hydro line was knocked down across the road near Erieau. Perhaps a Wind Warning might have been warranted after all. I don't think we got a drop of rain, however.
Good thing nobody was dumb enough to light any fires
