Wow, 73 in San Diego and Santa Monica was up to 69. That's the warmest weather those two places have had in a week!!! Probably won't be too long (over the next few weeks) before the next inland heat wave puts the beaches in the freezer again. Will they one day say "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in Santa Monica"? For this past summer/winter that was definitely true -------------------- Seasonal Rainfall: 14.87" Average to Date (End Month): 19.53" Monthly Rainfall (May): 0.61" Average: 0.56" Average Temps (May) Average High: 82°F Actual to Date: --°F Average Low: 52°F Actual to Date: --°F Record High: 106°F Record Low: 33°F |

Marine layer seems to have vanished for now, but given the time of year, we cannot expect it to be gone for too long. Even with the overcast high clouds late this afternoon, it was much pleasently warmer than yesterday's chiller.

I have a feeling were going to get rain bands well before the actual front moves through tomorrow afternoon/Evening. You can definitely smell the rain coming outside. Atmosphere is rather moist, So I would not be surprised with rain tonight. Not like this storm has limited moisture.

Cloudy this morning with a small chance of showers, but it's not likely that we'll get anything until this afternoon or evening. Up to half an inch is predicted here.

What is going on with the weather this week?
Last weekend they said this Monday was supposed to be warm. It ended up being one of the COLDEST days of the entire winter/spring from the coast to the mountains. Then the 3000 foot thick marine layer which was about as extreme as a marine layer can get just mysteriously vanished. Today when it was supposed to be cold, some areas in Orange County not too far from the coast are already in the mid 70s this morning. No wonder they say "Cutoff lows are the weatherman's woe" |

I'll be honest with you I can't remember the last time this happened. I mean it's warming up fast. We're almost up to 90. On top of that, There is very high solid cloud deck, Yet temps continue to rise....Yet it's going to be dumping by this evening.

In Hawaii, rain can be fun because it's usually warm. In California, rain is annoying because it's almost always cold.
Must be having some unexpected offshore flow ahead of that cutoff low. Not sure how this will affect the heavy rains. |

This type of scenario was very common during many of the winters in the 1980s and 1990s. Warmth often would not leave until the very last second before a storm. The last winter to feature many of these events was 1999-2000, and it has been practically non-existent since then.
Anyway, this cutoff low is getting a pretty good subtropical fetch right now. Hard to believe it'll be here in just a few hours. You sure wouldn't know it by going outside. -------------------- Temecula Seasonal Precipitation 2012-2013: 7.27" (-6.43") Normal to-date precipitation: 13.70" East Murrieta Seasonal Precipitation 2012-2013: 7.11" Season began July 1st, 2012. Explains the freak dust storm that occurred on the PCH
"Getting reports in Ventura county and western LA county of wind gusts in excess of 35 mph associated with a gust front that passed through the area in the last hour. The winds were transported to the surface from mid levels where weak convection was occurring. These winds also brought the surface temperatures from the mid 80s in a few locations back down into the 60s." -------------------- Seasonal Rainfall: 14.87" Average to Date (End Month): 19.53" Monthly Rainfall (May): 0.61" Average: 0.56" Average Temps (May) Average High: 82°F Actual to Date: --°F Average Low: 52°F Actual to Date: --°F Record High: 106°F Record Low: 33°F |
