The only time was when I was still in training at this one job and I couldn't be late. I called my friend to meet me at the gas station by my house. I took a gas tank and ran down the street and filled it up. I never used one before and I got gas on my clothes and stuff. My friend picked me up and drove me home so I didn't have top carry the heavy tank on my own. I had to change super fast and wash my hands so I didn't stink. I barely made it to work on time.

As a teenager - I frequently ran out - it was tough to come up with $1 to get 4 gallons....
Worst time was with my motorhome on the PA Turnpike - about 3 miles from the Service plaza. My present vehicle has a 'miles to empty' feature - more than once I have run it to Zero and still had to drive serveral miles to the nearest gas station - fortunately I have not run out, although I have put 24.9 gallons into a tank that is supposed to hold 25.0 gallons. -------------------- Never too old to have a happy childhood! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't put an age limit on your dreams! |

I don't believe I've ever ran out when I was by myself. That was pure luck.
Ran out once when I was with my husband and of course got the blame for it. I was surprised he didn't make me walk to get the gas. -------------------- If you have one true friend in the world you are very rich. ~ Alistair Begg |

Didn't run out of gas ... but ....
Borrowed a friends early 80's GM station wagon and trailer to tow a damaged vehicle from a event we were participating at to where I was living. The station wagon was plastered with 'Use Diesel Fuel Only' stickers on the dash and by the fuel tank. After having borrowed the vehicle and driven about 100 miles, I didn't want to give the vehicle back with a empty tank. I put $20 of diesel in the tank. Got about 2 miles from the fuel station when the vehicle sputtered to a stop. Vehicle had been converted to gas and when the gas ran out of the carburetor float bowl - the engine stopped. Fortunately this was just outside the event site. Having tools available, the only thing to do was to drop the fuel tank and drain it and get gas to the the engine started again and to to the gas station. of course the day that this happened it was only 100 degrees - made all the efforts so pleasant. such are some of the lessons of life. -------------------- Never too old to have a happy childhood! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't put an age limit on your dreams! |

I have never run out of gas that I remember, but have run the needle down low when I have had a can of gas in the trunk (long trips), generally I fill up at 1/2 tank or more. It's best in cold weather to keep your tank full to prevent condensation....
