We do have some snowpack, Rob…wonder how long it lasts with rain coming? Doesn't seem like it will be enough to melt all of it. ILN mentions flash freezing on their Facebook page. I think we will have more issues from that than the new snow. Wonder if it will put a thick glaze on top of the snow that's already here? That could be ugly for people and dogs.

Good morning snow people!!!

I think it started around 5 this morning in N Central IN, but I woke up late (!), been snowing intense, small, flakes....almost to the point of "pouring" snow.

I just went outside and if we all pause a minute...we can appreciate how beautiful it truly is out there right now; quiet, peaceful, not too cold, no winds..like a giant world of white velvet.....almost don't even need a coat! I cleared my spot and got the ruler ready, lol.....I missed the initial snow but it was so fine I'm not gonna worry about exact measurements....it'll pile up right nice and be a gorgeous storm any way it pans out smile.gif

Cheers!

You nailed it Michelle. I have just updated my facebook page mentioning exactly that. The local media around here over play the term flash freezing, but in this case, I believe it is warranted. I agree 100% even if we lost our snow pack (which I do not think we will unless it really warms up including higher dew points) the cold will be dangerous.

Yup, it probably won't quit until this afternoon so amounts approaching 10" don't seem completely unreasonable in your area, especially as temps continue to fall and ratios continue to rise smile.gif

Morning to you too! Enjoy the snow! You seem to be in a fantastic spot for this storm. There will probably be a break later this morning though before the main storm moves into your area this afternoon.

Currently 22 F and dropping here in St. Louis and winds are picking up too, but probably only in the 10-15 mph range.

If the NAM ends up correct with SLP placement, I will need to keep an eye on my GREarth mesoanalysis. At hour 12 the low is right over my house basically. LOL.

haha winds seem strong compared to here (not for long) we went 5.5hrs without any wind at all, and only just now got the first reading, for a few seconds and nothing. this really is the calm before the storm!

Well, I hope this is a good lesson to all of us. Don't write off the NAM once it gets into its "zone" even if the EURO and GFS consistency show a different solution.

As for this event, 1/2" of snow yesterday and maybe a flurry or two today is all I'm going to muster out of this storm.
