I was surprised that EE added to your post count. I've been on many sites where off topic threads did not add to your post count at all.

I know you guys have wanted a new ranking system other than the one we have (shown below) and I would like to make a move on this soon. If someone could give me an estimate on what you think the distribution is (i.e. highest poster has X posts, more than 50% have around X posts, etc.) that would be helpful.

I believe this would work...covers each type of major wx. Most active members will be in the Blizzard-EF5 Tornado categories. The tornado icons would still work.
Big Daddy - 20,000+ posts - 4 or 5 icons, I know there is a limit. Superstorm - 10,000-20,000 posts - 4 icons. EF5 Tornado - 5,000-10,000 posts - 3 icopns. Cat. 5 Hurricane - 2,500-5,000 posts - 2 icons. Blizzard - 500-2,500 posts - 1 icon. Whirl Wind - 0-500 posts - no icon. |

I looked up the total members and got an estimate of how much users have 1+, 50+ or 500+ posts, and I found the numbers rather surprising. At least 52% of the users have posted 1 or more time, 12% of the users have 50+ posts, and only 3% have 500+ posts. Out of the members that have posted 1 or more time, 24% have 50+ posts, and only 6% have 500+ posts. But what I did notice that leads me to think that we need a new system is that even though only a small percent of the users have 500+ posts, these are the most frequent posters, which is why in almost every thread I look at, almost everyone is rated a "F5 Superstorm".
What I think we need to do is keep the lower 2 categories (whirlwind 0-50, tornado 50-500) the same, but add at least another 3 categories, maybe something like 500-5000, 5000-15000, and 15000+. -------------------- Visit my weather website for the NYC area

And to the second: Right now there is no way to donate to accuweather forums. Probably never will be. -------------------- Hope for Spring

It seems like this hasn't changed. I think its just fine the way it is. If members are posting just to increase a post count it turns into tons and tons of extra one word posts or just plain garbage posts. I remember a couple members doing this in the past. Save space and get rid of the tornados all together. Speed up the forums and encourage thoughtful posts.
