Lost in the shuffle of all the storms down south is an unusually prolonged cool spell across the MW. The last time the Des Moines metro had a high temp of 60 or higher, it was April 14 when it hit 63. During this stretch, 3 days have not seen temps out of the 40's and it's currently in the mid 40's with rain.

A local independent met who I follow on FB & Twitter had the following FB message yesterday:

QUOTE
From Jim Lee at NWS: The current streak of 10 days is the longest run below 60 beginning on or after April 15th since 1917 (in DSM)!

Local forecast is calling the DSM metro's first 60 degree day in nearly two weeks on Thursday.

Edit: Normal high for Des Moines this time of year is 65.

Average highs for central Iowa is pushing 80 and the long range forecasts call for cooler and wetter than normal through the middle of the month and my local forecast reflects this:

Were is Summer? Is the Midwest in store for another cold and wet summer circa 2008?
