Lake effect snow once again is firing downwind of the lakes. Activity has actually been going
since Sunday, but with the holidays I haven't had a chance to create a thread until now (but
the dates of the thread reflect the earlier activity). I left the end date open for now as activity
should be ongoing for quite a while. Below are a couple of images for tonight..

Another round of lake effect will get going the next few days across the favored areas downwind
of the lakes. A couple images (skew-t is for the central portion of Lake Erie)...

A relatively minor lake effect event will be occurring today and tomorrow across the Great
Lakes. Considering the marginal parameters at play with this event and that any snow of
significance will only occur in the central to northern lakes (where we really do not have
any active members), I debated over the past couple of days whether or not to even create
a thread for this event. But considering that there is not much else to talk about, I decided
I might as well.

With that being said, the best low level moisture and instability will stay pretty far north.
Even in the upper lakes, the parameters are far from eyeopening. Overall, Northern Lower
Michigan into the U.P. could pick up a few inches (maybe up to a half a foot somewhere in
the U.P). Areas downwind of Lake Ontario in the Tug Hill should also see similar amounts,
although I wouldn't be surprised to see some slightly higher totals here with a few locations
exceeding 6".

The first widespread lake effect snow event for the Great Lakes should take place over the
next few days. I finally had some time to create a thread for this event and I left the date
open as it looks like there will be a favorable pattern in place for quite a while.

Below is the 12z high-res nam qpf totals for the next 60 hrs.

First lake effect thread of the year. smile.gif Unfortunately, I have been pretty busy most of the week, so I have not had a chance to create a thread for it until now. This should be a relatively minor event, but looks like some locations in the U.P. of Michigan could end up with a half foot or so. Nice to be back at it.
