40th Ann. Spring Blizzard of 1973

40 years ago, an epic blizzard impacted Iowa and portions of adjacent states. Up to 20 inches of snow and 50 mph winds created giant drifts and closed roads, businesses, and schools for days. The snow had a very high water content and is estimated to have weighed 50 pounds per cubic foot! (normal is 5-10 pounds)

I was 3 at the time and remember a giant drift that went up and over the 2-story apartment building I was living in.
