In 2 weeks I will be moving from Des Moines, IA to Fairplay, CO....elevation almost 10k feet at the base of several 14k feet peaks....Fairplay is at the northern end of South Park basin area.....which is semi arid .....

I am familiar with mountain weather in general.....I am interested in winter weather mainly....like what types of storm tracks give this area big snows...and what might have to come together to make it happen....

I know overall the humidity will be more like 20-30% vs 80% in DSM....that Im looking forward to! I have also been told that northern fringe of South Park area can see some incredible winds and low temps .....maybe not so much on this one...not a fan of wind! I can handle bitter cold for a few weeks....

Anyway any thoughts?

GFS has been showing it....as well as euro......Im sure it may back it down a bit as nothing has been good in this range.....but looks like after 1st week of March.....warmth comes in a big way

This may be the wrong place...but couldn't find more suitable place.....Ive watch CFS for several years....as many others....seems to me it more times than not it flip flops....starts out cold or warm...then when it comes to reality it is way off.....my question is...what good is a long range model if its not accurate till 2-4 weeks out verses 3 months?

The euro at hr 240 has cold air all the way to mexico....and it appears 2 very strong high pressures together.....but How do we get these strong NE winds across the midwest into mexico??? Am I missing some upper level feature?
