I would like to take this opportunity and wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.
Through your efforts the information many of you provide has helped plan things accordingly.
I was done my Christmas shopping yesterday, and it is because of all your efforts communcating about upcoming events.

Severe thunderstorm watch for **Many Areas of Southern Ontario including the GTA


Severe thunderstorms possible this afternoon and this evening.

This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall..Monitor weather conditions and listen for updated bulletins.

Conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms along and ahead of a cold front stretching from north of Lake Huron to Southern Lake Michigan. The cold front is expected to lie from North Bay to Windsor by this evening.

There is potential for some of these thunderstorms to become severe with damaging winds, large hail and torrential downpours being the main threats. Frequent cloud to ground lightning may also be associated. There is also a very slight risk of a tornado east of Georgian Bay to the Quebec border.

Today..Isolated thunderstorms are likely over northeastern and
Southern Ontario along and ahead of a cold front. There is a slight
risk that some of these thunderstorms may be severe with damaging
winds, large hail and torrential downpours.

Tonight..Chance of a non-severe thunderstorm over Southern Ontario
this evening.

Wednesday..Isolated non-severe thunderstorms are possible over
Northwestern Ontario.

A thunderstorm is defined as severe if it produces one or more of the

- wind gusts of 90 km/h or greater.
- hail of 2 centimetres in diameter or greater.
- rainfall amounts of 50 millimetres or greater in one hour or less.
- a tornado.

Note: this forecast is issued twice daily from May 1 to September 30.
