Tornado warning in effect for:

St. Catharines - Grimsby - Northern Niagara Region

Updated or ended by 12:02 a.m. EDT.

At 11:05 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado.

The thunderstorm is located just northwest of Fenwick and is tracking northeast at 40 km/h.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Tornadoes at night cannot be seen and may strike suddenly. Sometimes they are preceded by strengthening winds, large hail, or an approaching whistling or roaring sound.

In Canada, lightning kills up to 10 people every year.
Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required, so stay tuned to your local media or Weatheradio. Email reports of severe weather to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet with the hashtag #ONStorm.

Severe thunderstorm watch for **Many Areas of Southern Ontario including the GTA

http://weather.gc.ca/warnings/index_e.html?prov=son

Severe thunderstorms possible this afternoon and this evening.

This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall..Monitor weather conditions and listen for updated bulletins.

Conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms along and ahead of a cold front stretching from north of Lake Huron to Southern Lake Michigan. The cold front is expected to lie from North Bay to Windsor by this evening.

There is potential for some of these thunderstorms to become severe with damaging winds, large hail and torrential downpours being the main threats. Frequent cloud to ground lightning may also be associated. There is also a very slight risk of a tornado east of Georgian Bay to the Quebec border.
