I got something going on that is kinda crazy. For the last week or so and the sun finally shines here in NW Ohio for a few hours in the afternoon, the outdoor temperature will shoot up to 10 or more degrees than what it really is (wireless unit) and the outdoor humidity reading will go blank (nothing but ---- on the display). Wind speed and direction work fine so I'm guess there is no problem with the outdoor unit sending data to the console.
As I am typing this the real outdoor temp is; 50 but the Davis wireless is transmitting 61. There is also no outdoor humidity reading. The time right now is; 7:30pm EDT. The problem started around 1:00pm. I also just noticed the system recorded a -39 degree temp at 5:49pm.
I'm guessing it *may* have something to do with the angle of the sun in the sky this time of the year. I *think* this very same thing happened to me last year about this same time.
What is causing no humidity reading, I have know idea. All this will correct itself as sunset arrives. This are no errors being displayed, not even battery being low.
All of this will stop and return to normal when the sun gets at a higher angle in the sky as March ends. At least that is what I remember from last year.
What is going on? Anyone have any ideas?
03/17/11 Update; I found the problem this morning and thought I'd pass it along. The problem was a dirty wet connection under the cover for the Temp and Hum input plug. Mine is located on a tower about 30' in the air. I didn't have any luck trying to get it to work while still mounted to the tower so I removed it. I thought I was going to have to order a new Temp and Hum plate but for some reason I reset the plug one more time and it was working in the house. I then cleaned the socket and the connections and put LOTS of silicone dielectric compound to help keep any moisture out. I also cleaned and used compound in the rest of the sockets. I also replaced the battery and cleaned the rain dipper as long as the unit was easy to work on.

With spring storms around the corner, I'm glad it's ready to record it...

Vantage Pro 2 on line 24/7/365 since 2007.
All of a sudden within the last couple of weeks the wind
speed stops working (zero reading) during the heat of
the day. Comes back to life again when temp begins
to cool off.
There is NO problem with the wind direction, just the
It seems to be heat related. Any ideas guys?

I have been sending ARPS raw weather data for over two years.
My ID is/was; CW6752. The problem is I'd find my WX systems
program hung up do to ARPS servers not *telling* my system to go
ahead and send the raw data.
I sent a E-Mail to the operator of the web site and he told me that it's
not his problem but the servers that collect the data and sends it on
to his site. I *guess* the *real* problem is NOT the servers at all so I
was told BUT the weather program we are using. Something about
how things are handled, ie; programming.
So, I stopped sending data to ARPS. I found my system hung-up up to
three times a week.
Anyone else seen this happening to their system?
Have a great WX day! Bill here in NW Ohio. Ham Callsign; N8FIS

I'm running two Davis Vantage Pro systems. One at my home and
the other at work.
Both units are using Weatherlink programs. One is version 5.5.1 on
the work system and the one at my home is 5.7. Both are using the
Here's the problem with both. Both units send data to a host system
that puts them on the Internet for all to see. Every once in a while,
BLANK data will be sent, either the graffic screen or no midnight
data (archive) is sent, again only a blank screen. The ONLY way to
*fix* this problem is to re-boot the computer.
When I called Davis a few months ago about my unit at home using
the USB port at the time hanging up, they FINALLY admitted there is
a problem with USB and I got the serial interface. I kinda doubt they
will admit to a problem I'm having that's it's their problem.
I'm guessing even with the serial interface there is a loss of data
between the weather console and the computer every once in a
BTW, both computer do nothing else. 100% used for the Davis
Any idea guys??

Anyone having problems with bees making a home out
of your ISS unit? If so, what did you do about it?
I was thinking (there I go again *thinking*) of wrapping
the unit with nylon screening BEFORE bees try and move
Reason I ask is because of a nasty bee problem I had
two summers ago.. I had a older rain bucket hooked
to the side of a tower.. I went up 40' to service the bucket
and a not so friendly nest of hornets stunk the hell of out
my hands while I went down the tower a LOT faster
than I went up.. I was VERY VERY luckey I was not
stung lots of times in the face! You guys be carefull!
